Simple Ways To Add Character To Your Home

Adding character to your home doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. With a few small changes, you can have your space quickly transformed into one that is not only beautiful but is a reflection of your own personal style and interests. There are several quick changes you can make to just about any living space to bring interest to the room.

Lamps

First up, lamps. I will talk a lot about the importance of lamps in home decor on this blog. Overhead lighting is great, but there is nothing that makes a room feel quite as cozy and inviting as a few table lamps turned on in the evening. I found this Jonathan Y Banana Leaf Basket Lamp on Amazon and was instantly sold. This lamp is substantial in size, and the texture adds a really fun element to any room.

Throw Pillows

Throw pillows are such an easy way to change the look and feel of a room, and instantly add character. I’ve mentioned before how the cost of purchasing throw pillows can add up, so it can sometimes be better to purchase inserts and then you have the option of changing covers seasonally or as your taste changes. IKEA and Amazon both sell inexpensive throw pillow inserts in various size. For covers, I find the bulk of mine on Amazon for really affordable prices. It is also fairly easy to find dupes of higher ends styles on Amazon as well. You can find this red chinoiserie pillow cover here, for currently around $10.

Vintage Accents

Shopping thrift stores and antique malls can be an inexpensive way to add character to your home. I like to look for ceramic pieces and small decorative accents when shopping for vintage finds. This charming blue and white vintage ceramic vase was less than $10 and the perfect accent piece for displaying these faux tulips. You don’t need to spend a lot on vintage finds to dress up an area of your home. Small pieces can usually be found for considerably less than what you would pay at a big box store and you are likely to walk away with something that is not only unique but something you also truly love.

Books

Books make an excellent addition to your home decor. I like to stack a few and use them to give smaller decorative items height, or I’ll layer them in with other pieces to fill space and also add color. Book stacks are a great way to insert your individual personality and style into a room. You can select books you already own, or search thrift stores for specific color themes to work in your own space.
