It can sometimes be overwhelming knowing where to start when decorating a room in your home. One thing I’ve found helpful is to think of the most basic pieces the space needs, start with those and then add things in as time and budget allow. For instance when designing a breakfast nook, you’d want to think of what the most basic items you’d need within that space are, and build around those.

The 4 elements I would start with in any breakfast nook? Area rug, table, chairs, chandelier. To me, these are the bones of the space. You can always add in more decorative items as time goes on, but by starting with these you have the basic things you need and a really great foundation to build on.
When selecting these pieces I find it helpful to do this all at once. This way you can be certain that what you are choosing will work well together. Set a budget, and find things that work together while also staying in a price range you feel comfortable with. This can be time consuming, especially when you are trying to find the best deals (check multiple sites to ensure that you aren’t overpaying on a piece), but you are more likely to be satisfied with the outcome by taking your time.
For the breakfast nook I styled above, I went to Amazon and Wayfair in search of these 4 basic pieces. I found this Ebbert Trestle Dining Table on sale for $415.99 on the Wayfair website, and felt that it would go well with these Tufted Wingback Dining Chairs also on the Wayfair site. The dining chairs come in a set of 2 for $219.99 (currently on sale).
Next, I was in search of a round area rug to go beneath the table and chairs. I wanted something with a traditional style, and warmth to compliment the table and chairs. I found this gorgeous Mark & Day area rug on Amazon for $306. A stunning rug for any space.
Finally, I chose a chandelier that would finish out this space. This gold drum chandelier on Amazon seemed like the perfect fit, and I love the interest it adds.
If you’re looking to create a breakfast nook in your own home, try starting with these 4 pieces. Remember to imagine the space as a whole to ensure that everything works together, this will help save time and money in the long run.
